Validation of Asthma algorithm - Marshfield

Algorithm Type:
Case, Control
Institution:
Implementation Details:

Cases: We reviewed 25 randomly selected patients. We had 1 false positive for a PPV of 96%. False positive subject had exactly two diagnosis dates of asthma in year 2000 and 2001 (4 months apart) and has no further diagnoses of asthma thereafter. Subject has occasional use of albuterol inhaler for bronchospasm. Subject has following respiratory related diagnoses: 305.1 Tobacco use disorder, 786.2 Cough, 466.0 Acute bronchitis, 519.11 Acute bronchospasm.

Controls: We reviewed 25 randomly selected patients. We had 1 false positive for a PPV of 96%. False positive control subject had no asthma diagnoses, but has mention of history of asthma in anesthesia record (a scanned image document) per abstraction. Subject has no respiratory disorder diagnoses other than a one time cough diagnosis 786.2 Cough.
